Following the injury time equaliser on Wednesday night against Ayr Juniors, the U13′s played Southside FC at KGV in Ayr Saturday 22 May 2010 in what was a title decider. Southside went into the game 2 points ahead so Boswell knew that only a win would do should they wish to win the league.

On a scorcher of a day it was fitting that the league would be decided against the 2 only undefeated teams in the league, both undefeated in the previous 21 games. With a large support on both sidelines it was Boswell who took the lead through Houston when he crashed home the opener high past the Southside keeper, however the lead was short lived as straight from the kick off a defensive lapse allowed Southside to equalise with a low drive from just outside the box that beat Lyle in the bottom corner. Games between the two clubs in the past have been hard fought affairs and this one was no different though Southside were playing the better football and seemed to settle better than Boswell as nerves took hold. Southside took a deserved lead to go 2-1 in front with an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner. Boswell got to halftime without conceding another and knew in the second half they would have to push men forward to get the victory as a draw was no good.

Boswell started the second half much better and began to pressure the Southside defence and midway through the second half were awarded a penalty when Henderson was fouled in the box by the Southside keeper. The penalty was the turning point in the game, score and who knows what might happen, unfortunately the Southside keeper guessed correctly and saved to his right and to make matters worse we didn’t follow up the loose ball and missed the rebound. From then on Boswell had to push an extra man forward by going with 3 at the back and Southside took advantage of this scoring 2 goals in the last 5 minutes to see out the game 4-1 and win the league on the last day.

Congratulations to Southside FC on their success, they were the better team on the day and probably played their best game of the season when it really mattered.

We have had a fantastic season and we should not forget that. To reach 3 cup finals and finish runners-up in the league, where we were undefeated in 21 games is a great achievement. Of the 16 squad members we have had 9 of them since they were 6 years old, and to have coached and developed all 16 of them to where they are today is an extremely proud achievement for the club.

The season is not over yet and the team will be participating in the 33rd Ayr International Youth Tournament 28/31 May 2010. Lets hope we can finish off the season with a trophy and some winners medals………for a change.
