WSYFL – U13′s Ayr Boswell 2 Ayr Juniors 2

With 2 league games remaining the U13s faced a difficult game against local rivals Ayr Juniors at KGV on Wednesday 19 May 2010. With Southside drawing 1-1 with Glenafton Athletic at Drongan on Monday night it meant both teams, Southside and Boswell were on the exact same record going into the final 2 games. With Southside being our opponents in the last game of the season Boswell knew that a loss to the Juniors would end their chance of winning the league outright.

As always in games against Ayr Juniors, Boswell were slow to start and Juniors should have taken the lead early on when their striker mistimed his header at the back post after being given too much space and it went wide. With the game being fiercely contested both teams had chances to take the lead but with half-time approaching it was Juniors who took the lead when their captain scored with a good drive from just outside the box that beat Lyle low to his right hand side. Half Time 0-1

In the second half our opponents looked like they wanted to close the game out quickly and having hit the bar in the first half rattled it again early in the 2nd. Boswell just couldn’t make their chances count and halfway through the 2nd half Juniors scored again to make it 0-2. Juniors rattled the bar again not long after making it 2 and with Boswell having to get something from the game they changed formation with Houston going to centre half and pushed another into midfield in an attempt to get back into the game. With about 10 minutes to go time time running down the boys started to press and force the juniors into mistakes and with 5 minutes left Pinkerton scored a well taken goal from the edge of the box to get 1 back, 1-2 Juniors.

With Southside winning 3-0 on the adjoining pitch against Valspar it looked as though we would be going into the last  game 3 points behind, but the boys showed that they are never beaten and with the game in injury time, Robbie pounced on a knock on from a throw in to score with what was nearly the last kick of the game and sent the Boswell sideline mental!

Final score Ayr Boswell 2 Ayr Juniors 2

And so the league would now be decided on the last day of the season with a title decider against  Southside FC. The draw against the Juniors put them 4 points ahead of them with 1 game to go but to secure the league Boswell must win as they are 2 points behind Southside.
