U13′s Reach Final of Scotland Cup May Day Festival
Ayr Boswell U13′s reached their 3rd Cup Final of the year on Sunday 2nd May 2010 only to be outclassed by Bertie Peacock Youth from Colraine, Northern Ireland.
The team started well with a convincing 10-3 victory in their opening game and followed that up with a 2-0 win over Carryduff Colts to guarantee them a semi-final place. On Sunday morning their final group game was against Spartans fc from Edinburgh to see who would top the group. Boswell came out on top 5-3 in a superb game to top the group and set up a semi-final clash with Loughside fc from Belfast.
In a pre-season game back in August 2009 Boswell had ran out convincing winners on the day 7-1 but this was to be a different game and we soon found ourselves 2-0 down going into the 2nd half. unbelievably Boswell got it back to 2-2 but almost immediately Loughside went ahead again 3-2 with about 3 minutes to go. Boswell flung everything at Loughside and with literally the last kick of the game Kerr got the equaliser for 3-3 and send it straight to penalties.
Boswell triumphed 3-1 on penalties amid great scenes from all the players and supporters and we were into the final againbst Bertie Peacock Youth. I dont know if the semi final took it’s toll on the boys but we were over run in the final against a fantastic team, the best we have seen at this age group, and lost 7-0 in the final.
Well done to the boys and a special thanks go to Deco and Hoppy for coming in to assist us over the weekend as guests from Tass Thistle Rovers. They are a credit to their club and got on well with all the boys and played their part in helping us get to the final.
